Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt Trailer Highlights Ellie Kemper’s Joyful, Silly Self
Netflix has released the first trailer for Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, its latest original series. The show stars Ellie Kemper (The Office) as she enters the world after 15 years in an underground apocalypse shelter.
The trailer is full of the same silly joy that Kemper brought to Erin on The Office, with the post-apocalyptic cult survivor surprisingly bringing less weird to the table than the receptionist. The show follows Kimmy as she navigate her new world, finds what looks to be the first actual-size tiny NYC apartment ever recorded for serialized television, and meets friends (and Jane Krakowski).
You can’t help but smile along with the infectious Kemper as she brings this deeply earnest, happy person to screen. There are hints of both The Mary Tyler Moore Show to Big Love (oh those dress sleeves!) in the trailer but the singular voice of the show is clearly defined in just over two minutes.
The show, produced by Tina Fey, premieres on Netflix on March 6. I have my binge planned already.
